The MMORPG Albion Online integrates a new dungeon mechanic designed to satisfy fans of classic open-world dungeons and instances.
In classic dungeons of an MMORPG, you are grouped together with all other players who have entered it. This creates a feeling that the dungeon is truly part of the game world, but it also brings some problems.
Monster groups or bosses form lines, known as respawn camping. All players wait for the enemies to finally respawn, so that the next group can take down the mob. Additionally, other players can spoil the fun by “spoiling” what else lurks in the dungeon. Disputes over loot can also arise.

Instances, on the other hand, allow for coordinated group play and careful exploration of the dungeon without interruptions. However, this is detached and separate from the rest of the world.
In Albion Online, they aim to connect these two mechanics together. So far, there are the classic dungeons as well as the so-called hellgates that lead to instances. Additionally, new “gateway dungeons” can also be found in the game.
These are classic open-world dungeons where you will be adventuring with many other players. In the dungeon, you will find the gatekeeper. If you defeat this entity, a gate will open that leads to an instance where you will encounter dangerous monsters, but you can also obtain very valuable loot.
A gateway always allows five players to pass through. This gives the developers of Albion Online the ability to customize the instance for that specific group so that they have a particularly exciting experience. The gateways have been received so well by the fans of the MMORPG Albion Online that the developers will gradually replace the older dungeons with these gateways.
