The sandbox MMORPG Albion Online will remain in beta for quite some time, partly due to the game world.
The world has already been revised once to create a better balance between new players and veterans, as well as between PvP and PvE players. Currently, however, the team is once again working on changing the world. The developers have very particular expectations for it.
On the one hand, it should be a believable world. It should feel natural, and players should be able to get lost in it. The world should become credible and organic. Special locations will be introduced, each with its own name. The landscape should feel natural. The cities will also be designed individually for this purpose.
Playing in the world should be fun
Additionally, the world should offer players a lot. Every exploration trip should be interesting and varied. Moreover, the game world should be designed so that events make sense and it’s fun to participate in them. Players should always have plenty to do.
It must be a world where every activity makes sense – whether it’s gathering resources or fighting monsters. Additionally, it must be a world where good balancing is ensured. The world must be tactically structured so that PvP makes sense in the areas where it is possible.
Major changes to the world afterward are difficult
These things must now be considered and integrated before the release of the game, which affects the design and shape of the world. Changing this shape afterward is anything but easy. New areas can always be added, but the basic shape of the world should remain the same.
Therefore, now is the right time to define the world, and everything must be just right.
