In Fortnite: Battle Royale, a trailer has emerged featuring a sword. Does this mean that swords will soon be available in the game, or does the blade refer to a new game mode?
This is shown in the sword trailer: A small teaser was recently released on Twitter. It shows the courtyard in front of the Ice King’s castle. The area is snowy, but not completely covered in ice and snow, as it is in the current Fortnite map.
In the middle of the courtyard, a sword is stuck in the ground. Shortly afterwards, the armored hands of the Ice King grasp the weapon and pull it out. A further teaser image follows with the description “A weapon worthy of a king”.
New mode or new weapon?
Reasons for a new game mode: The sword from the teaser has already appeared as an asset in data leaks, and the Santa Claus from the Season 7 trailer already signaled the invasion of the island. Additionally, it resembles the eponymous Infinity Blade from the RPG of the same name by Epic.
It’s quite possible that it’s an item from a new game mode. It could operate similarly to the notorious “Infinity Gauntlet,” which was released at the start of the new Avengers movie in early 2018. In that mode, the glove of Thanos from the film was an item that appeared once on the map. Whoever found it could become Thanos and had immense powers.
An “Infinity Blade mode” could operate similarly. You search the map for the blade and thus become the Ice King, who then rocks opponents away by the dozen with the power of frost and ice.
Will Fortnite get a new melee weapon? It could very well be that Epic is merely announcing a new type of weapon, namely a sword. However, that would be difficult to fit into the game and would need to deal a lot of damage to compete with the usual firearms.
Therefore, the concept of a game mode is considered more likely.
When will the new mode or weapon arrive? The sword, whether as a weapon or mode, may come with the next update. It is likely to occur on either December 11 or 12.
