In the third year, it finally worked out! A group of Hobbits was able to reach Lord of the Rings Online and Mount Doom without completing a single quest beforehand.
What is special about this event? For 3 years, streamer BurkeBlack has been trying to successfully complete the “Great Hobbit Run” event on his birthday in July (via X). The plan is to follow the companions and master the long and dangerous way from Bilbo Baggins’ home in the Shire to Mount Doom in Mordor.

Unlike the group of heroes from the books and films, the brave band of BurkeBlack metaphorically ties both hands behind their backs: All participating Hobbits are freshly created, without experience and poorly equipped.
Moreover, the Halflings ignore all quests during the stroll. The group thus reaches a maximum level of the Level 112 area … if they even succeed at that. The distance that the companions 2.0 have to cover is shown in this image on X:

How did the attempt go in the third year? Successfully! After almost 7 hours, the Hobbits were actually able to reach the iconic Mount Doom this year. You can find the entire run on twitch.tv.
Unfortunately, the Hobbits forgot the One Ring in the Shire. So they promptly threw themselves into the lava. Gollum would have been proud. You can also watch the final seconds on X.
What else is happening in Lord of the Rings Online? With the introduction of the new 64-bit servers, the 18-year-old MMORPG recently celebrated a sort of third spring. With Update 44, new content was also released on the live servers in April.
Now players are looking forward to the content update for the third quarter as well as the new expansion, which is scheduled to be released at the end of 2025.
