ARK 2 was supposed to be released last year, but the release didn’t happen and the developers went silent. Now there is a sign of life.
What was the latest status of ARK 2? Studio Wildcard, the developers of ARK 2, have been silent about the survival game for a long time. The last information was provided almost exactly 2 years ago, on March 31, 2023, when the developers postponed the release of ARK 2.
ARK 2 was subsequently scheduled for late 2024. In the meantime, the UE5 remaster “ARK: Survival Ascended” was supposed to fill the gap for players. It was released in October 2023 but received only moderate reviews (cf. Steam).
By the end of 2024, ARK 2 disappeared from Steam – there, eager players could at least read the basic information about the game until then. The planned release in 2024 did not happen, and the developers remained silent.

What new information is available now? Even in March 2025, there is no trace of ARK 2. But there is at least a sign of life:
- Studio Wildcard announced a new expansion called “Lost Colony” for ARK: Survival Ascended, which takes you to “Arat Prime.”
- This mysterious place is considered the “birthplace” of the Arks and is an important location in the lore of the survival game.
- Lost Colony is supposed to close the narrative gap between the expansions “Extinction” and “Genesis” and serve as a bridge into the world of ARK 2 (via Steam).
In addition, the official account of ARK: Survival Ascended posted on March 18 on X.com, in which the developers explain that Studio Wildcard is continuing to work on ARK: Survival Ascended and ARK 2.
However, this post caused a lot of confusion among fans, as it also states: “ARK: Aquatica is being developed by SnailGamesUSA.” However, a project named “ARK: Aquatica” is not yet known. The announcement is still pending.
Not the information fans hoped for: Players who have been waiting for ARK 2 since the first announcement in December 2020 are likely disappointed with the new information – after all, the game was supposed to be released last year.
For months, there has been regular questioning in the ARK subreddit about where the game is. Fans discuss whether it might never be released or ask when the release will be. Many players likely wish for a proper release date that will actually be adhered to.
If you want to play ARK, you currently have to make do with ARK: Survival Ascended.
