The developers of New World have introduced the next season of the Aeternum Era and concurrently released a roadmap for the medium-term future of the MMORPG.
What is known about the next season? Season 9 of New World is titled “Season of the Banner” and will start on July 29, 2025. The next content phase of the MMORPG primarily revolves around the new PvP mode Flag Capture, where the opposing parties battle for flags on 2 maps.
Unlike in previous seasons, there will not be seasonal servers with extra rules this time. On newworld.com, the developers explain that the disappointing hardcore servers might have been the last experiment of this kind: “Seasonal servers will not return in Season 9 and are not planned for future seasons.”
What else does Season 9 bring? Apart from the Flag Capture mode and the 2 new maps, there are hardly any new content planned. You can compete with other players in the new “3 vs 3” arena map “Leaf Tribunal”, challenge 2 new world bosses, and benefit from several events. Additionally, there will be a trial opportunity for the next Outpost Rush map.
Moreover, the new rewards series for Season 9, a few adjustments for the combat areas as well as PvP, and new or adjusted artifacts are coming:
- Plagueherald (Helmet)
- Yeeterson (War Hammer)
- Crescent’s Wave (Greatsword)
- Revenge (Life Staff revision)
- Grey Wizard’s Hat (Hat revision)
- Creed (Feet revision)
In summary, the heavily criticized Seasons 7 and 8 clearly had much more content to offer. Those who do not enjoy PvP will hardly find a reason to return to New World during Season 9 – but to be fair, the last two seasons also failed to achieve that.
A light at the end of the tunnel
Why is there hope? With the presentation of Season 9, there was also the updated roadmap for New World, which addresses, among other things, the planned content for Season 10. The following are planned for the next season:

- Procedural expeditions with retreat

- Set bonuses

How is the roadmap received in the community? While Season 9 – not surprisingly – can excite very few players, many fans of New World look very optimistically towards the planned content of Season 10. Again and again, Katy Kaszynski is mentioned, who took over the leadership from Scot Lane in May 2025.
