The readers of the manga Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission have been waiting for almost 9 years for a new chapter. Toyotaro, the artist of Dragon Ball Super, has picked up the pen again and published the last chapter of the manga.
What kind of manga is this? Besides the main manga of Dragon Ball, which is currently continuing with Dragon Ball Super, there are a few other spin-offs. One of them is Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission. The manga is inspired by the arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes.
The story revolves around a boy named Beat, who ends up in such an arcade game. He is actually a primary school student in Satan City, but dreams of becoming the best player in Dragon Ball Heroes.
In the game, various cards can be used in battle, featuring both new and old characters from the Dragon Ball universe. Thus, Beat must also use the cards to fight against a whole range of tough opponents.
Coming soon in the anime area with Dragon Ball Daima:
Toyotaro is likely preparing for a new manga
How was the ending handled? Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission debuted in November 2012. Toyotaro published the manga in V-Jump magazine, but only until November 2015. Since then, there has been silence about the manga, even though the story was not finished. Presumably, he paused because he was chosen as the artist for Dragon Ball Super.
However, the last chapter has finally been published, after almost 9 years of waiting. Fans of the manga can see the grand finale in the SDBH guidebook “Heroes Memories.” It was released on August 28, 2024. You can preview it in the left image on the X account of SmugStickDB:
In the last chapter, Beat manages to save the Earth. We see him and his companion Note as they have grown up. In the tweet, you can see on the right how they looked before the time jump and on the left how they look as adults.
Why did Toyotaro finish the manga right now? Perhaps Toyotaro wanted to conclude the spin-off to fully focus on his new work now. He will carry on the legacy of Akira Toriyama and continue the manga of Dragon Ball Super.
As for when Dragon Ball Super will continue, we do not know yet. But the ending of Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission is a good sign that Toyotaro wants to clear “old burdens” and focus entirely on Dragon Ball Super.
Toyotaro has already drawn some images in preparation showing new characters. One of them is Gevo, who was seen in the anime only in a single photo: Dragon Ball: The artist shows for the first time how the son of Dr. Gero looks in full-body format
