For die-hard action fans, Netflix soon has a special movie on offer. Together with a former soldier, it goes through the Finnish wilderness – until Nazis get involved.
What movie is it about? On Netflix, from November 1, 2024, the movie Sisu can be streamed. It is a mix of action and war film and comes from Finland. Directed by Jalmari Helander.
Sisu originally hit theaters in 2022, now the tough film can also be enjoyed in your own living room. Depending on your viewing habits, you may have a lot of fun with it. Just recently, another tough action film celebrated success on Netflix.
The Nazis are in trouble
What is Sisu about? The film tells the story of Aatami. He is a former soldier who served on the battlefields of World War II. However, the war is not over yet, as the story takes place in 1944.
Aatami has retreated to Lapland and only lives there with his animals, a dog and a horse. One day he stumbles upon a gold vein and suddenly becomes a rich man. The problem: The nearest bank to which he wants to take the treasure is over 800 kilometers away.
Aatami sets off and unexpectedly encounters a unit of German soldiers along the way. The SS men find the gold and a conflict is already brewing. But they did not reckon with the fighting spirit of the Finn – and his mercilessness.
Who is the movie suitable for? You should not be squeamish when it comes to violence in films. Sisu already shows in the trailer that Aatami makes no prisoners. The age rating of 18 is definitely justified. Action fans should prepare for some brutal scenes.
Some moments are reminiscent of the uncompromising nature of John Wick. Similar to the killer portrayed by Keanu Reeves, Aatami is also very efficient when it comes to dealing with his opponents. “Sisu” means in Finnish approximately “not give up,” or “fighting spirit.” John Wick himself has a nickname that instills similar fear in his enemies.
How did the movie perform? Sisu received mostly positive reviews upon its release in 2022. On Rotten Tomatoes, it still holds an average of 94% on the critics’ side. Viewers rate it at 88%.
Also, at the Finnish Film Prize “Jussi,” the film won in five categories. Those who have not seen it yet and enjoy tough action films can soon give the film a chance on Netflix. Genre fans will find more movie tips on MeinMMO: 5 action movies rated 18 for tough film fans
