An alternative to Call of Duty? This is expected to be offered by Battlefield 6 soon. There are new rumors about a new mode, but they dampen fans’ expectations. Because the new mode is said to not fit the game.
What is currently angering the fans? The leaks regarding a “Battle Royale” mode are currently causing concerned faces among fans. Leakers had a chance to access material showing a short scene of an intro. In this, soldiers jump from a helicopter onto a map, as known from Warzone or Fortnite – both are battle royale games.
EA had this clip removed. But the post was re-published, just without the video. According to the gaming site pcgamer.com, data regarding the Battle Royale were even found in the last Battlefield Labs test.
Whether there is any truth to the leak cannot be confirmed with certainty, but one thing is clear: fans are not at all excited about the idea.
“Why can’t we just have a Battlefield game?”
Why are players angry? Battle Royale has truly established itself in gaming thanks to Fortnite. After that, various other games followed that also wanted to follow in Fortnite’s footsteps, including Call of Duty with Warzone. However, looking at the genre, there are only a few titles that still move successfully within this genre today.
This was a trend that started in 2017, where many studios could smell quick money. For many fans, it is now incomprehensible why EA is taking this risk, especially since Battlefield 2042 flopped hard at release. To players, it looks like the studio is chasing a nearly decade-old trend. The following can be heard on Reddit:

You might think that Battlefield is trying to copy the success of its biggest competitor, but Warzone is not doing well either. The brand has been dying for years and is just barely surviving, while Fortnite thrives.
What is happening in Warzone? Not much, considering that the shooter is infested with hackers, plagued by bugs, and offers little innovation to retain its players. Warzone is trying to keep up with Fortnite, but while Epic Games’ flagship retains its fans with countless collaborations and live events, Warzone has been sinking for years (via steamcharts.com).
Whether it would be tactically wise for EA to push such a mode must be decided by the studio. However, for many, after the release debacle of BF2042, the brand is already on very thin ice.
