Already in patch 8.1.5 of World of Warcraft, we hear from the Old God N’Zoth. He presents players with some puzzles again.
The next patch of World of Warcraft, patch 8.1.5, is actually just a minor interim patch. Nevertheless, there are some contents that will keep players engaged for a while. Throughout various quest lines and boss encounters, players will come into contact with N’Zoth and can hear his voice.
Spoiler warning: The article logically contains spoilers from patch 8.1.5. You have been warned.
N’Zoth has many secrets: As is common for Old Gods and their minions, N’Zoth also speaks quite cryptically and presents some puzzles. Since many of his spoken words have already been extracted from the game data, speculations in the community are already running high. Particularly the following quotes are suspicious:
- “The Light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all.”
- “Six seats at the high table. Six mouths that hunger. One will consume all others.”
- “The fall of night reveals her true face. She will bring only ruin.”
- “When the arrow finds its mark, the last fetter will fall away.”
There are already some theories about the first sentences: Some players suspect that “the Light” could symbolically refer to Anduin or Turalyon, both of whom have a very strong connection to the Light. This would also fit with an earlier sentence where another boss said that “the child king sits at the master’s table”. They also suspected Anduin there.
What the “six seats” could be is still being debated. A few players suspect that it refers to the six primal forces: Void, Light, Life, Death, Order, and Chaos. However, that doesn’t satisfy most as a coherent theory.
On the other hand, the “fall of night” is strongly associated with Elune and Tyrande. It is suggested that a “dark” turn could be imminent for the night elves, as their beloved goddess may not be as loving anymore. This would also fit an earlier theory where Elune was corrupted.
The last sentence with the arrow is also difficult to assign. The most well-known archers are Sylvanas, Alleria, and Vereesa, the three Windrunner sisters. Who of them could “hit the target” is uncertain.
N’Zoth gives players “a gift”: Additionally, there are various sentences from a questline where players seem to be possessed by N’Zoth. They can hear his whispers and begin to see the enemy everywhere.
Throughout this quest, there is a possibility to purify this “gift from N’Zoth.” The game indicates that this decision cannot be undone. This might represent another important decision players can make. But this is still speculation.
What is your opinion on N’Zoth’s sayings and the ideas surrounding them? Do you have any thoughts on his words? Or is this all just a confusion tactic of the Old Gods?
