A strategy game has achieved something at release that only GTA 5 has managed. On Steam, you can get the game now for ten bucks.
Which game is being referred to? The game is called A Total War Saga: Troy and is part of the popular Total War series. The strategy games developed by Creative Assembly are primarily known for cinematic battles where thousands of soldiers fight simultaneously.
A Total War Saga: Troy was released on August 13, 2020, initially exclusively in the Epic Games Store. There, the game was even given away for free on the release day! In September 2021, it was released on Steam, where you can secure the game for €9.99 until December 11, 2025.

What success does the game share with GTA 5? Right on the first day, when the game could be secured for free, there was a huge demand. This was confirmed by Ivan Kanev, Development Director at the studio behind Troy, in a brief interview. You can read this in the form of a post on YouTube.
In the interview, Kanev is asked what success he is most proud of during the development of A Total War Saga: Troy. Besides the fact that the game was successfully released in the first year of the Corona pandemic, he was also pleased with the great interest in the title.
The game attracted so many people to the Epic Games Store on release day that it crashed the platform’s servers for several hours. This had only been achieved before by GTA 5:
Another truly proud moment was when 7.7 million people claimed the game for free in the first 24 hours, thereby crashing the Epic servers in the first few hours (something that had only been achieved before by GTA 5).

Epic strategy in the war for Troy
What is the game about? A Total War Saga: Troy transports the well-known mix of the series of turn-based strategy with real-time battles into the Bronze Age. The focus is on the legendary Trojan War, as represented in the Iliad – the preserved epic.
The main game relies on a mix of mythology and history. Legendary warriors like Achilles and Hector take on numerous opponents simultaneously, and units inspired by mythological creatures such as centaurs and sirens also enter the battlefield.
If you want a “Age of Mythology”-style Total War and command real creatures from myths, the Myth DLC is worth it. It adds a new game mode with real monsters and significantly more powerful god powers.
If you prefer a purely historical experience, you will also find it here. It might be even more worthwhile to buy Total War: Pharaoh. The game also costs only €9.99 on Steam and in the Dynasties edition offers the heroes of Troy on a significantly larger map.
