For fans of Gothic, Drova – Forsaken Kin could turn out to be a real hidden gem. Unlike the long-awaited remake of the first part, you can already play the game on Steam.
What kind of game is Drova – Forsaken Kin? It is an action RPG with a 2D pixel look. Drova offers an open game world sprinkled with influences from Celtic mythology. The developers showcase what that looks like in the launch trailer.

Who are the developers? Behind the game is the developer studio Just2D, a small team from Germany. It consists of six developers and claims to be inspired by “highly praised dark representatives of the genre.” Deck13 acts as the publisher.
Although the developers do not name a specific game, they have clearly taken inspiration from the popular action RPG series Gothic. This is evident not only in the dark atmosphere but also in many game mechanics.
Angry spirits and action-packed battles
What is the game about? In the world of Drova, spirits hold control over nature. To seize this control, some humans capture these nature spirits. However, this provokes the wrath of the other spirits, leading to a conflict among the humans.
As a – this time not nameless – hero (or heroine), you will join one of two factions during the course of the game. Your choice is supposed to affect the further story. However, the dialogues in the game are not voiced, so you will necessarily have to study text windows.
In battles, the developers focus on a fast, action-based combat system with a variety of weapons such as swords, spears, or bows. You can increase your combat power not only by using stronger weapons but also by finding trainers who offer their services in the game world.
When will the game be released? Drova – Forsaken Kin will be released on October 15, 2024, for PC on Steam and GOG, as well as for PS4 / PS5, Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch.
Unfortunately, there is currently no playable demo available. However, you always have the option on Steam to return the game within the first two hours of play without any problems. Alternatively, you can also check out a Let’s Play video like the one by Gronkh on his YouTube channel.
A large part of the charm of the Gothic games was the vibrant world. Each character had their own daily routine and didn’t just wait around for us to talk to them. This feeling is also something the survival MMO Conan Exiles wants to convey with a major new update.
