Members of Japanese bands have strict guidelines regarding relationships that they must adhere to. A Japanese idol has now failed to follow these rules and must post a selfie every evening as punishment.
Who is it about? This is about Momoka Tojo, a member of the band KATACOTO*BANK. The band consists of seven women and was founded in 2021. The songs are exclusively in Japanese and mostly convey a cheerful mood.
Only a month after Momoka Tojo joined the band, she had to defend herself after a mistake.

Accidental post causes uproar
What exactly happened? On July 23, 2024, Momoka Tojo celebrated her 20th birthday. Her boyfriend was also present, with whom she took some selfies. When the band member posted information about her upcoming performance, she accidentally uploaded a collage of these selfies as well.
What are the consequences? The idol officially apologized directly on July 27, 2024 on her X account. In the apology, she asked her fans for forgiveness and promised to reflect on her behavior. Such a situation would not happen again and she would work on regaining her fans’ trust.
As punishment, Momoka Tojo must now adhere to two rules:
- She must maintain a certain distance from her boyfriend.
- Every evening, she must post a selfie in which she is alone.
Additionally, fans are allowed to express any suspicion of rule violations.
Why is Momoka Tojo’s behavior bad? In Japan, most stars are discouraged from entering into public relationships and keeping their love lives completely secret. The reason for this is that often the image of “purity” and “innocence” is to be maintained.
