Crytek, the German dev studio behind Hunt: Showdown 1896, reveals a new mechanic that fans of the shooter are already looking forward to: magical tarot cards. One of them is likely to be particularly useful in preventing “cowardly” hunters from escaping.
What does the teaser show? Although it is only 23 seconds long, it already shows three of the new tarot cards in action. These cards are:
- “The Chariot”
- “The Sun”
- “The Garden”

What do these cards do? For two of these cards, namely The Chariot and The Garden, the effect is already quite clear. In the teaser, a hunter activates The Chariot as a group of other hunters reaches an extraction point. It appears to prevent or delay escape.
The tarot card “The Garden” can extinguish fire on burning hunters – and for the entire team. It is either specialized for this, or it also cleanses other negative effects such as bleeding or poisoning.
As for The Sun, the teaser is still a bit vague. Since this tarot card was used when the hunter was already wounded, YouTube user danielscots comments under the teaser on YouTube that it could be a kind of “fast heal”.

How are the new tarot cards received? The community’s reaction has been quite positive so far, as a glance at the comments on YouTube shows. The cards are a fresh mechanic, and some fans have noted that the game has been lacking in that area lately.

That Crytek dares to delve more into the supernatural aspects of its world is also well received by players.

Whether the tarot cards are here to stay or just part of a special event is not clear from the teaser. When they will be introduced into the game is also still uncertain.
