With Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition, a legendary role-playing game returns to Dungeons & Dragons after almost 20 years in a fresh guise. It offers a wealth of content along with exciting new features.
What kind of game is this? Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition is a modernized re-release of the original from 2006. It celebrates its release today, on July 15, 2025, for PC (Steam, GOG), Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, costing €28.99 on Steam and €29.99 on consoles.
It is a classic role-playing game set in the multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons. The game takes you to the famous city of Neverwinter and offers over 100 hours of content with deep campaigns, epic stories, extensive character and party management, as well as the return of the Dungeon Master feature that was very popular in the original.
The story begins in the small village of West Harbor, where your self-created character grows up. However, a mysterious artifact, a shard of an ancient, powerful weapon, soon brings you to the attention of dark forces. On your journey, you’ll have to make some significant decisions that can greatly influence the course of your story.
The Enhanced Edition includes the 3 DLCs (“Mask of the Betrayer”, “Storm of Zehir”, and “Mysteries of Westgate”). In addition to the story, tactical battles await you. Although the battles take place in real-time, everything is based on the D&D 3.5 edition rules – including dice rolls, attack rolls, saving throws, and initiative.

You’ll have a variety of classes, spells, and different companions at your disposal, which you can also control and customize. Additionally, as you progress in the game, you’ll receive your own fortress that you can expand, defend, and use politically. You can also play the whole thing in co-op with up to four players – crossplay across different platforms is possible.
Along with a prettier and more modern look, the Enhanced Edition also offers some new features and improvements compared to the original, making it interesting even for nostalgic players who already know the game.
What makes the Enhanced Edition better?
What new features and improvements does the modern version offer? For one, many players from the old days will likely be pleased about complete controller support and optimized camera controls, as these often caused frustration in the original.
Like the original, the new version of Neverwinter Nights 2 supports mods and even includes integration with the Steam Workshop, Steam’s own mod platform. The game has also been technically optimized for current platforms, including Steam Deck support and patches against old bugs and black screen issues.
As is fitting for an Enhanced Edition, the textures have also been polished and performance adjusted and improved for modern systems.
How is this received by the community? The community is excited to return to Reddit in an improved version to Neverwinter and for a relatively low price. Many are happy about the improvements made and are eager to see how they will play out in practice:
