Netflix has steadily expanded its range of animes in recent months. A new anime, of which only 2 episodes have currently been released, has directly entered the top 10 most-watched series.
Which anime is it about? It is about the reboot of Ranma ½. The anime started on Netflix a few weeks ago. So far, 2 episodes have been released. The series originally aired in 2002 on RTL II, which is why many of you might know the original from your childhood or youth.
Ranma ½ follows the adventures of Ranma Saotome. The 16-year-old, his father, and many other characters have fallen into enchanted springs. Due to the curse, they transform upon contact with cold water into the being that drowned in the respective spring.
Ranma fell into a spring where a young girl drowned. This makes his situation much more complicated: He has to deal not only with his fiancée but also with many other admirers. So the relationship chaos is pre-programmed.

Ranma ½ gets a successful reboot
How successful is Ranma ½ with the reboot? Although only 2 episodes of the anime have been released, it is already ranked 8th among the most-watched series on Netflix (via FlixPatrol). Thus, the series is just behind Dandadan, which is in 7th place, another anime.
In Germany, the anime even ranks 6th among the most-watched series and is the only anime in the top 10. This is likely due to many former RTL II viewers being curious about how Ranma ½ performs in 2024.
The quality of the anime is reflected in IMDb: The first episode was rated 8.0 out of 10 points, and the second episode even received an 8.5/10. So far, only 171 and 81 votes have been cast, but they show the trend of how good the reboot really is.
Why should you watch the anime? New viewers and fans of the RTL II original should not miss the anime. Ranma ½ shines in a modern coat and looks really beautiful. There is also a chance that this time the story of the complete manga will be shown, not just part of it in the anime.
A special gimmick is that almost all the voice actors from the RTL II version are also involved in the German dubbing. Only the male Ranma has a new voice actor, who does his job very well. Unfortunately, the German opening of the original anime is also missing.
Unlike the original anime, the nudity has been toned down a bit. Although breasts are still suggested, the nipples are now covered by towels or other objects.
