In Dune: Awakening, the developers have deployed heavy artillery in the Hagga Basin for the current event. These are operated by the Kirab and attack the CHOAM freighters. A player has now risked everything and let themselves be hit by the cannons to see what happens.
What are those cannons? The “CHOAM Salvage Rights” event is currently running in Dune: Awakening. In the Hagga Basin, the Kirab are attacking the CHOAM freighters with new, heavy artillery and bringing them down.
While the event quest series mainly revolves around salvaging the CHOAM freighters and working against the Kirab, a brave player tested what actually happens when their own Ornithopter gets hit.
Here you can see what to expect in the first major update of Dune: Awakening:
A player sacrifices themselves
What happens when you get hit? The large cannons can bring down entire CHOAM freighters from the sky. Accordingly, many players on Reddit show great reverence, preferring not to risk their own Ornithopter and loot to see what happens when they get hit.
But Reddit user Page_Eleven did just that. Deliberately, he flew close to one of the large artillery towers, which shoot at the freighters in the sky with deafening noise, and let himself get hit. To the player’s surprise, however, his Ornithopter did not explode.
Instead, the player’s aircraft was simply tossed around a bit in the air but remained completely unharmed. The cannons seem to be completely harmless to player spacecraft as long as you don’t crash due to the force of the shot.
How do players react to the player’s action? The powerful cannons make a strong impression with their noise and effects. On Reddit, many players admit to having feared for their own belongings and have thus been avoiding the cannons.
In the comments on Reddit, players are mainly grateful for the test:
- BreadfruitThis5302: “Thank you for being brave enough to test it”
- AtomicOnionRing: “I was too scared to test it. I thought it would kill me immediately.”
- Regular_Style9440: “Hahaha, I mean, it’s better than what I expected. I was already wondering what would happen!”
- bahumutx13: “I wonder if the patches changed it. In the first hours, a rocket hit me and destroyed the entire front of my attack thopter. I flew to an island and had to repair everything. Pretty sad if they just bounce off now.”
The fact that the player’s Ornithopter does not take damage from the loud and powerful cannons is barely criticized on Reddit. Players are rather glad that Arrakis has not gained yet another dangerous component.
