Even on “easy” one can fail spectacularly in Baldur’s Gate 3. Especially when one does not listen to the dialogues.
Even though Baldur’s Gate 3 has introduced many players to a genre they otherwise wouldn’t play, tactical RPGs can be too difficult for some. That’s why there is the “Explorer” difficulty, where you can mainly enjoy the story. The overall difficulty of the battles is reduced and the characters have more hit points.
Nonetheless, one can clearly put oneself in situations on this “easy” difficulty that are nearly hopeless, as a player demonstrates on Reddit.
What kind of situation is this? You can see it here in the screenshot:
The hero party is heavily damaged, some are lying on the ground. Fire is everywhere and at least 9 Steel Watchers have surrounded the party. These are extremely strong opponents that can easily defeat characters with a single hit.
Therefore, the player asks: “Dear Baldur’s Gate 3 community, this fight is really uncomfortable for me. I deliberately chose “Explorer Mode” for my first playthrough, and it feels like I need to be an AI to win here. I kindly ask for a good strategy to defeat this metal rabble!”
What did the player do wrong? Several things. Firstly, he apparently broke the pact with Gortash and broke into the factory where the Steel Watchers were made. However, it seems he did not complete the factory because he could have disabled all the Steel Watchers there, rendering them no longer a threat.
At the same time, there are repeated comments from companions nearby warning against starting a fight now because they know how powerful these giants can be.
Lastly, the throne room is also filled with numerous traps that have already spit fire or exploded. This has already cost many hit points of the allies, while the Steel Watchers were nearly untouched.
This is how the community responds: Other players on Reddit are fascinated and unsettled by the screenshot. Many do not even know how one can end up in such a situation.
- “Bro, what the hell did you do, I have never experienced this situation in 10 playthroughs.” – validusrex
- “Honestly, did you go ‘full Leeroy’ or what? Why are you surrounded by so many Steel Watchers?” – hyundai-gt
- “Oh man.
My brother in Baldur, we urgently need to introduce you to the Gnomes.” – EyeAmKnotMyshelf - “What the hell did you do? Did you attack Gortash before destroying the Steel Watchers’ factory? LMAO” – Adorable_Is9293
- “You shouldn’t be fighting this battle at all and acting hostile here, that’s why your companions keep warning you about it.
But, um … I think a lot of Chain Lightning scrolls would probably be your best chance.” – Kezika
What was your most chaotic experience in Baldur’s Gate 3? Have you ever maneuvered yourself into a seemingly unsolvable situation? Or did you always read all the texts, listened to dialogues, and diligently followed your companions to avoid such moments? If so, then you can be happy, because in the next game from Larian, the companions will be even better.
