Since 2023, fans of One Piece have been waiting for the new season of the Netflix adaptation. We still have to wait a bit, but a new teaser finally shows new material. For the first time, we also see an important character that seems almost forgotten in the manga and anime.
What kind of teaser is this? Netflix released a sneak peek for Season 2, showing behind-the-scenes material regarding various fights and other scenes. Different actors also explain in the video what fans can expect.
The actor portraying Luffy, Iñaki Godoy, makes it clear right at the beginning: The story of One Piece is getting bigger, and it is getting better.
The crew is finally ready to sail to the Grand Line. Emily Rudd emphasizes that in Season 2, we will see how the crew relies on each other.
Aside from that, we see how various fight scenes are filmed, and we get a glimpse of Loguetown. After having already seen a first look at Chopper in a previous clip, we see for the first time in the new sneak peek Tashigi, a rival of Zorro, who was involved mainly at the beginning of the story.
A rival of Zorro who is no longer really relevant in the anime and manga
Who is Tashigi? In the sneak peek, we see Tashigi for the first time, played by Julia Rehwald. We briefly see her in full gear as she comes out of a door that likely stands in a Marine base. We first meet her in the story of One Piece in Loguetown, where she serves as a sea cadet under Vice Admiral Smoker.
At first, she is an insecure swordswoman who constantly apologizes to her superior. In the manga and anime, she encounters Zorro in Loguetown after he has seen her fight. A rivalry develops between them because she wants his sword, the Wado Ichimonji. In her belief, no criminal should wield such a legendary sword.
The relationship between the two is initially highlighted because Tashigi looks like Zorro’s childhood friend Kushina.
How important is Tashigi to the story of One Piece? Initially, she appears more frequently as a side character and rival of Zorro, especially in the later Alabasta arc. After that, she falls quite heavily into the background.
After the timeskip, she plays a larger role in the manga and anime in the Punk Hazard arc, but currently, she does not seem to be really relevant in either the anime or manga. When looking at her abilities later in the story, she quickly fades as Zorro’s rival.
