Medieval Zombies? That is exactly what a new survival game on Steam promises, where you protect yourself as an ordinary farmer from undead hordes. Unlike The Day Before, there is actual gameplay from an early version of the game before the release.
Which game is being talked about? The game in question is God Save Birmingham, a survival game by developer Ocean Drive Studio. The game is played from the third-person perspective and this time it doesn’t take place in modern times, but in the Middle Ages. Multiplayer or co-op modes are currently not planned.
Many newly announced zombie games have a problem, however: The Day Before. The survival shooter generated a lot of hype with fancy-looking trailers and big promises, but ultimately failed to deliver. Since then, genre fans have become extremely cautious.
God Save Birmingham delivers exactly what The Day Before lacked in its marketing, namely real gameplay. This comes from an early version of the game that was also presented at gamescom 2025.
Zombie Outbreak in the Middle Ages
What is the game about? The setting is 14th century Birmingham, England. Most of the city’s residents have turned into zombies. You are one of the last survivors: An ordinary farmer who must survive with nothing but a shirt on your back and what you find while exploring the city.
Here you can see the new gameplay trailer for God Save Birmingham:
You must ensure that your character neither starves nor thirsts to death or dies in other ways. The zombies pose the greatest threat to your life, even if they don’t seem that dangerous at first glance:
- Zombies move extremely slowly, similar to those in Resident Evil, and there is only this one type.
- You won’t encounter any special types such as particularly fast zombies or those with ranged attacks.
- However, if they corner you, it can quickly be the end for you.
To protect yourself from the undead, you can make good use of your surroundings. If you have a table or another large piece of furniture at hand, you can use it to barricade doors. Or you can throw a nearby barrel at an enemy.
When will the game be released? There is currently no release date for God Save Birmingham. From September 19 to 22, players can test a pre-alpha version on Steam.
Another medieval zombie game has risen from the dead. In this game, you fight your way through the apocalypse as heavily armored knights in co-op. You can find out more about this game on MeinMMO: A survival game with zombies and knights seemed to be dead, but now it’s back with a new trailer and it looks really good.
