Many modes have gained legendary status in the League of Legends community, even though they haven’t been playable for years. A mode beloved by players is finally returning after years, and players are already celebrating the bots.
Which mode is it? In 2016, League of Legends players last played the mode Doom Bots
(Horror Bots). There, one had to team up with a group of five against overpowered bots that were based on normal champions, but in a significantly stronger version:
- Amumu’s ultimate was significantly larger.
- Veigar summoned not just one projectile above with his W, but several around.
- Blitzcrank used three arms for his Q ability.
The mode was quite unfair, but that was the appeal. Now Riot announced in addition to the upcoming WASD control that the mode will return. Apparently, the bots now also react like real players, at least when it comes to provoking.
Bots defeat players, provoke with emote
What is this clip about? On Reddit, user Gizabi posted a clip from the new mode, which is currently only playable on the test server. There, a player fights as Akali against a Caitlyn bot. The bot pushes her under the tower. The bot then attacks under the tower and kills the player.
As the bot runs out of the tower, it uses the emote to display its mastery. A moment that every LoL player knows from regular games. You die, and as a last provocation, the emote is displayed once more.
How does the clip resonate with the community? Under the Reddit post with over 7600 upvotes, the clip and the bot’s behavior are celebrated. Not only the aggressive diving under the tower but also the emote usage is well received by the community:

As an old pro who loves League but hates PVP more with age, I’m so glad that Doom Bots are back.
What’s new in the new Doom Bots mode? In a developer update, Riot showed 2 new bots that have significantly enhanced abilities. Wukong is supposed to get many more clones that replicate not just his Q, but also his ultimate. Riot talks about having 7 possible Wukong ultimates simultaneously.
Nami is also expected to become a major threat. Her bubble is supposed to split again in the air, and her ultimate is much larger than in the regular version. One of the biggest changes is the new final boss. Instead of Teemo, you will now encounter Veigar during the game.
In addition, there will be new missions and difficulty levels, as well as a title that can be unlocked through this.
When will the mode be available on live servers? The mode is currently only available on the PBE, the test server. With patch 25.17, the mode is expected to appear on the live servers as well. You can also currently play another mode in the launcher: LoL is getting a new minigame and the first level was so good that I played it 6 times.
