The player base of Helldivers 2 has been confronted with a new mission that has caught the troops off guard with a task that even seems almost impossible. Yet the bravest soldiers still seem to respect it.
What is the mission? The mission in Helldivers 2 is “Kill 2,500,000 soldiers with the Orbital Railcannon Strike.” No special communication issues, simple and easy to understand. But to implement it?
Insane_Unicorn shares this mission on Reddit with the question: “What are they smoking at Arrowhead anyway?” Because the Orbital Railcannon Strike (ORS) is actually not used to eliminate troopers. The ORS cannot target troopers but only aim at large enemies. And even then, the strike rarely hits more than one target, as it always aims for the largest one.
Mission drives some players to despair, while others find it great
What makes the mission almost impossible? Even though an ORS only targets large objectives and actually doesn’t hit small opponents, it is still not impossible. If no valid target can be found in the vicinity, the Orbital Railcannon will strike exactly the spot where its flare signal has landed.
If a trooper is located at that spot, he will be eliminated.
However, the chances are rather slim due to the requirements, such as the cooldown of the ORS and the number of defeated troopers needed to complete the mission.
Some players think it might actually be a joke from the developers, while another suspects a typo in the stated mission. Yet despite all this, a large number of players seem to understand what the appeal of the challenge is.
Why do many players still find the mission so great? Despite the almost ridiculous requirements, many players find the mission fantastic, as it presents an attitude that makes them chuckle.
- MeowCattoNip: “It’s not about efficiency, guys, it’s about sending a message!”
- Sad-Needleworker-590: “So it really wasn’t a joke, huh? It has the vibe of shooting a fly with a bazooka.”
- Delta27-: “That’s the point of a Helldiver: sending a message to our enemies and hitting a nail with an orbital bazooka. No costs spared.”
One can gather from the community’s reaction that there will be enough Helldivers who will contribute in solidarity.
Whether the brave soldiers will succeed in overcoming this new mission remains to be seen. It’s not the first time they have been confronted with an almost impossibly difficult mission from Over-Earth: A mission in Helldivers 2 is so hard that the developers have to intervene, yet players remain hopeless
