The hope of the guardians to still see a Destiny 3 faded with the latest wave of layoffs at Bungie. Now, an insider is said to have hope for the fans again, but the game does not sound like what the community would like.
What information has been revealed? According to Kurakasis, a relatively unknown insider from the gaming industry, Bungie is working with NetEase on a new game for Destiny. The rumor was confirmed by Jeff Grubb, another insider who revealed many insights into the catastrophic events of the developers during the recent layoffs at Bungie.
The game is supposed to be called “Destiny Rising” and if you were looking forward to a new Destiny game, we must disappoint you. Destiny Rising is set to be released for mobile.
A Destiny: Immortal for mobile?
What does the insider say? Jeff Grubb provided some details and told fans on Instagram what they can expect from Destiny Rising. The game is supposed to be released for your mobile devices and set in the world of Destiny. However, you will not create your own guardian, but will be able to choose a “hero character” to play with.
It is unknown whether the pre-made heroes are well-known guardians from Destiny lore. According to Jeff Grubb, the game could be announced soon.
What could the game look like? There is still no exact information about it, but NetEase has previously worked with Activision on a mobile Diablo. The game is titled Diablo: Immortal and allows you to create a hero, loot and level up with it, as well as play seasons.
However, the game had problems because fans with a lot of money could gain unfair advantages and thus make their character more powerful compared to a free-to-play player. Diablo: Immortal faced criticism, and fans with deep pockets still have much greater advantages than those who are reluctant to spend money.
But aside from that, Diablo: Immortal offered many things to keep players engaged. Events, dungeons, and even clan battles provided variety – Destiny Rising might look similar.
Would the game be something for Destiny fans? Considering that Destiny fans like to have their own guardian and enjoy the gunplay, movement, and atmosphere, things look bleak for a mobile version of the loot shooter.
As a guardian, you want to feel the power of light, defeat many enemies, build builds, test new weapons, and showcase and actively hone your skill. On mobile, this will be difficult, as not every mobile phone owner has the latest model.
Moreover, Destiny is a first-person shooter, as the fans know it. However, if the game switches to a third-person view and focuses only on running around, spamming talents, and collecting loot, it will be hard to engage the community.
Lastly, monetization comes into play. There have already been problems in the community with Bungie and their monetization practices – not least with the event passes for events that have not changed for years. If Destiny Rising has pay-to-win mechanics like Diablo: Immortal, instead of just focusing on cosmetic items, it could spell trouble for the game.
