On Steam, a new cozy game is winning the hearts of many players. The simultaneous player count peaked at 20,000, a result the developer did not anticipate.
What kind of game is this? It is the game Webfishing on Steam. You play as a cute animal wandering around and casting a fishing line by the water. There isn’t much more to do. The game’s design is reminiscent of Animal Crossing.
Webfishing is a cozy game that you can comfortably play on the couch. Loftia also falls into this category:
Simple fishing game delights players on Steam
After a month since its release, the game on Steam can record a peak of over 20,000 simultaneous players (via steamcharts). The developer did not expect this, as he shared on X, formerly Twitter:
It has now been a MONTH (?!?!) since the launch of Webfishing, and I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all the support and interest in this crazy project. Honestly, I thought MAYBE at some point 100 people would play it – but here we are!
What does the future hold for Webfishing? He further stated that he is not quite sure what the future of the game looks like. After working on the game for months, he will now take a break. He will start planning the next steps; he already has ideas for new games.
How is the community reacting? The comments under his post are filled with fans of the game thanking the developer:
- webegga (on X): “Thank you for my game of the year :)”
- onlysalad (on X): “Thank you for making my new favorite game. Webfishing deserves all the love it gets and even more.”
- zinczub (on X): “For the future: I would buy Webfishing merchandise immediately.”
20,000 simultaneous players is a high number for a small indie game, especially since indie developers do not have major publishers for support.
