In the world of movies and series, Marvel and DC fight for supremacy, but in the comics, the two publishers occasionally meet. Next year, it will happen again when two iconic heroes face each other in a new comic.
Mostly, these are nothing more than the wet dreams of comic fans: popular superheroes from Marvel and DC meet, work together against evil, or beat each other up.
Whatever the dreams look like, for the most part, they are unrealistic. DC and Marvel are still competing companies that don’t often collaborate. However, there is currently a reason for fans to rejoice. This month, the crossover “Deadpool/Batman” will be released in German.
In addition, there is an almost even bigger announcement: As Marvel and DC announced, the next crossover is already scheduled for 2026. It brings together big names, namely Superman and Spider-Man.
It has been a long time …
What is known about the crossover? There is still much that is unknown. What is certain, however, is that two volumes will be published. Marvel will release “Spider-Man/Superman #1”, while DC will release “Superman/Spider-Man #1”.
It is still unknown which creative minds are behind the project or what the storyline of the comics will be. Given the shared history of the two superheroes, something epic is to be expected.
The last collaboration in comic form was several decades ago. In 1981, “Superman and Spider-Man” was published, a volume also created jointly by DC and Marvel. In it, the two superheroes had to face dangerous foes: they had to confront Doctor Doom and Parasite, two major antagonists from their respective universes.
Doom wanted to destroy all forms of energy on Earth, thus making all of humanity dependent on his own energy generator. At the same time, he used the destructive power of Hulk to plunge Metropolis into chaos and free Parasite, who was imprisoned there.
With Superman and Spider-Man, two heroes who are very different came together even back then. One is an alien from the planet Krypton, extremely strong, and a real beacon of hope. Peter Parker aka Spider-Man is (in most versions) a boy or young man from New York who comes into his powers rather unexpectedly. Both come from completely different backgrounds, so their meeting offers a lot of potential for interesting dynamics.
When will the crossover be released? The two new comics will hit the market in March and April 2026, initially in English. This would be just in time for the 50th anniversary of their very first encounter – which took place in 1976 in “Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man: Battle of the Century.” Whether and when the volumes will be released in German is still unknown.
