In the comics, movies and series from Marvel, there is a specific metal that has a significant impact on the world and grants power to certain beings. A new comic adds a spicy detail to the raw material that could forever change its usage in a universe.
What metal is it? That a metal plays an important role in a world full of superheroes and villains may surprise outsiders. But Vibranium, as the raw material is called, is extremely rare and very hard, while being significantly lighter than conventional steel. It is characterized by its ability to absorb energy.
This makes it an important metal. Especially Black Panther and his kingdom Wakanda benefited greatly from it. As fate would have it, a meteorite full of Vibranium struck in Central Africa – near the kingdom. This ultimately led to Wakanda becoming technologically so advanced. Black Panther’s suit, for example, is made of Vibranium, can deflect bullets, and thus grants the hero great strength.
Captain America also uses the metal: his famous shield is made from it. And the character Vision, who is part of the Avengers, has a body made of Vibranium. This allows him to withstand strong attacks without harm. He will soon get a new series on Disney+.
The metal is therefore quite powerful and has only fallen to the Earth from space in a few places. A new comic takes place in Universe-1610, the Ultimate timeline, and adds an exciting twist to the story.
Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman originally auditioned for a different MCU film – good thing it worked out with Black Panther after all. Here you can see the trailer:
A useful metal suddenly becomes dangerous
What has changed? In the new comic book “Ultimate Black Panther #20,” Vibranium is mentioned again, but the story adds a new aspect to the raw material. As in other universes like the MCU movie cosmos or the original Earth-616, it is also here that a meteorite from outer space falls to the Earth at various points.
In this version as well, the inhabitants of Wakanda discover it, leading them to become a technologically advanced civilization. The big difference: The comic suggests that there are creators of the raw material somewhere in space, who have also infused their own essence into Vibranium.
What does this mean? By other races using the metal, the unknown alien race can gather important information about them. Ultimately, Vibranium can thus become a tool for future conquests. After all, knowledge is power, and if a hostile race knows how Vibranium is used in areas like security and defense, security gaps can easily be found.
It will be exciting to see how the characters from the comic ultimately react to this change, and whether Vibranium will continue to be used to such a large extent. Important questions about the safety of one’s people in the face of espionage and looming attacks come to the forefront.
“Ultimate Black Panther #20” is written by Bryan Edward Hill, with illustrations by Stefano Caselli. The volume will be released on September 17, 2025, and continues the Ultimate Black Panther series. Will you take a closer look at the comic? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Also exciting is a powerful antagonist from the Ultimate universe: One of Marvel’s smartest heroes will soon receive a new film; in another universe, he is a dangerous villain
