With SOL Shogunate, the new studio Chaos Manufacturing has presented its first video game with a new trailer. Expect samurai in space, plenty of action, and a focus on rock music. Another relevant feature: It aims to stand out from games like Dark Souls.
What is SOL Shogunate? During the PC Gaming: Show Most Wanted 2025, Chaos Manufacturing presented its debut work SOL Shogunate with a first trailer. The studio consists of experienced industry veterans who have worked on games from Riot, Blizzard, and CD Projekt Red.
As a third-person action RPG, the game aims to offer you quite a bit:
- A revenge story set in an alternative sci-fi future full of space samurai.
- Diverse tools in combat, including several melee and ranged weapons, elemental infusions, and movement options.
- The game is also expected to have a strong focus on Japanese rock music, which will underscore the boss fights and other action sequences. In the trailer, you can already hear the band AliA, and others are expected to be involved in the game.
- The fights themselves are expected to be fast, fluid, and cinematic.

Samurai, but in space
What kind of game is SOL Shogunate? In the trailer, you can already see the protagonist Yuzuki, who can travel through space as a sci-fi samurai. A central point for this is the moon. The world of SOL Shogunate takes place in an alternate future where Japan has become a powerful space nation.
This is also supposed to influence the architecture and the samurai themes. The developers describe the style as “astro-feudal.” Yuzuki herself comes from a once-powerful samurai family that was brutally murdered. As is common in such stories, Yuzuki seeks revenge.
For this, she also has various tools at her disposal. She can find or obtain gene splices in the world that can enhance or change her own abilities. Additionally, mechanics like element infusions for your weapons are expected to offer various ways to defeat bosses and other enemies.
This is what MyMMO action fan Nikolas Hernes says about the trailer: I’m already satisfied with the fact that it’s not a Soulslike and is finally a very action-packed action RPG. I do enjoy Soulslikes occasionally, but there are just too many of them now.
Aside from that, the first trailer looks good and the initial information sounds promising. The genre offers many possibilities for interesting and especially creative combat systems, and the visual identity could also be exciting. In the trailer, you can already see initial attacks and features such as ropes to pull in opponents.
However, I’m particularly excited about the boss fights and the use of Japanese rock music, as if done correctly, it can create a great flow that players won’t soon forget.
However, it should be noted that the game is still in pre-production. So, you will have to wait for further trailers, especially regarding gameplay, to better assess the information and what has been shown.
When is SOL Shogunate expected to be released? As the game is still very early in production, it will likely take some time before there is a rough release date. However, you can already add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
If you don’t want to wait for such a game with fast combat and rocking music: You can also find hard-hitting and fast action in Ninja Gaiden 4: A new action game is just as tough as the famous Soulslikes, skips the mechanics, and captivates me after just 4 levels.
