Heroic monologues have long been an important part of animes. However, one series has exaggerated so much that it has received an award for a Guinness World Record.
What anime is this? The series The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You
is a mix of over-the-top humor and romantic harem. The high school student Rentaro Aijo has had extreme bad luck in his life. He has confessed his love to exactly 100 girls, but received rejection from each one.
In his desperation, he prays at a shrine for a girlfriend. The God of Love appears and confesses that due to a mistake, Rentaro is entitled not just to one partner, but to 100.
Rentaro then gets to know more and more girls who fall in love with him. If he cannot reciprocate the love of one person, she dies in an accident. The solution is, therefore, to date all 100 of his girlfriends at the same time and make them all happy.
Romantic Comedy Breaks Anime World Record
What was the world record for? The series has now received the award for “the longest monologue in an anime” (seen on X). In episode 24, the final episode of the anime, Rentaro lists everything he loves about his 100 girlfriends. And that takes a while with such a gigantic harem. You can watch the full monologue on YouTube.
In his monologue, he uses a total of 7,453 Japanese characters. These are even displayed during his monologue, which he delivers at the end of the episode. Since his complete monologue would probably have exceeded the broadcast time, the show’s creators had to come up with something.
In his list of traits he particularly likes about his girlfriends, the speaking speed had to be increased. Sometimes viewers don’t even understand what Rentaro is listing anymore. Fortunately, there are subtitles, but even those are running at breakneck speed.
Is there anywhere to see the normal speed? As the team behind the anime revealed, a special event is planned for October 18, 2025. There will be a talk show with the cast and the first public screening of the full monologue at normal speed.
Anyone wanting to watch the monologue in normal speed beforehand will have to get the Blu-ray of the anime. The version from Crunchyroll only features the fast-paced version.
