With the Median XL mod, Diablo 2 is heavily overhauled. We show you what changes in the game and for whom the modification is worthwhile.
What is Median XL? Median XL is a free modification for Blizzard’s Diablo 2. In January 2019, the mod received a huge update with the Sigma update. This brings many improvements, such as the option for a 1024×768 resolution instead of the usual 800×600 for Diablo 2.
The mod completely overhauls Diablo 2. There are new areas, various new abilities, and of course even more loot. Each class learns 30 new skills through Median XL. Other skills can also be unlocked by completing quests. This allows for entirely new builds.
The endgame is significantly expanded by the mod with over 40 new quests. In these tasks, you must prove your skills with your character, farm effectively, and uncover secrets. Additionally, there are convenience features, such as the automatic pickup of gold, which make gameplay easier.

What interesting things have happened in Median XL? The modification continues to be expanded. Just in December 2018, the huge Sigma update with a new engine was released. Shortly thereafter, in January, it was announced that 34 new game servers were activated. In total, there are 53 servers.
Who is Median XL worth it for?
Many wonder if Diablo 2 becomes more interesting with this mod or if it is now more worthwhile to play. Based on its features, it can be roughly defined for whom this mod is worth it with Diablo 2.
The mod utilizes the English version of Diablo 2. Those who are not keen on that and are not proficient in English may have less fun with Median XL.
Diablo 2 fans who played back in the day: Anyone looking to dive back into the nostalgia of Diablo 2 and refresh their experiences could have fun with this mod. There are new, tougher content and a revamped endgame. This could be worth it for you. With the many new content, Diablo 2 is significantly expanded again and offers old fans reasons to install it again.
However, the visuals remain the same. This is not a remaster version, but just a slightly polished game. If you are not playing for the feeling and now place more value on graphics, you will have to look the other way.
Players who have never played Diablo 2: Those who have never played Diablo 2 and are used to the standards of newer games in terms of controls and graphics will have a hard time with Diablo 2.
Despite Median XL, the game clearly shows its age. To have fun with it, nostalgia feelings should be present that could be awakened.
For those who only started enjoying the Blizzard series with Diablo 3, it might be tough to get excited about Diablo 2 in 2019. However, it is not impossible. We recommend first watching gameplay and then forming an opinion about the game + mod.
