Quentin Tarantino is not a big fan of streaming services. Nevertheless, he has been captivated by a series on Netflix. According to him, it is better than anything else on the platform.
What does Tarantino think about streaming services? The director and screenwriter clearly considers himself old school. He still shoots his films analog and resists digital cameras and cinema projections. Additionally, as a child of the 80s and 90s, he mourns the video rental stores that have gradually been replaced by streaming services.
In an interview with Deadline, Tarantino mentioned that films appearing on such platforms exist outside the zeitgeist – in his view, they practically do not exist.
Recently, however, the director had very nice words for a popular series on Netflix. He was referring to “The Haunting Of Hill House” from 2018. In a conversation with The Jerusalem Post, he called it his “favorite series, without competition”.

The Horror of a Family
What kind of series is this? For those who missed “The Haunting of Hill House,” here are the key details:
It is a series with 10 episodes, ranging from 43 to 71 minutes long. The story is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by author Shirley Jackson. The book was published back in 1959. The Netflix version was created under the supervision of Mike Flanagan, who has since successfully brought other series to life.
It revolves around the Crain family. Parents Olivia and Hugh lived with their five children in the eponymous Hill House. Even from the outside, it looks quite gloomy. Uncanny events in the estate do not take long to appear. Soon, supernatural occurrences take place, leading to a tragic incident – what exactly happens, we won’t reveal for spoiler reasons.
Years later, the children are finally grown up and return to the place of terror. The past is just waiting to catch up with the Crains. As the grown-up children try to find answers to unresolved questions, they increasingly doubt their perception. Visions and nightmares add to the tension, spreading a proper horror atmosphere.
Is the series really that good? Unfortunately, Tarantino did not reveal exactly what he likes about the series. On Rotten Tomatoes, “The Haunting of Hill House” has a proud 93% positive ratings from critics. The audience rates it at 91%.
For MeinMMO author Christoph Waldboth, the series is also among the best that Netflix has to offer. Especially fans of atmospheric horror are likely to enjoy the 10 episodes. While there are also one or two jump scares, the series largely builds a dense, eerie atmosphere.
The characters are well-written and well-acted, and throughout the story, they undergo some shocking twists. The tragic fate of the Cain family is at the center – “The Haunting of Hill House” offers profoundly human horror.
The characters and their individual problems are always at the forefront. Especially one twist will give you goosebumps even after the credits roll. Meanwhile, the series looks visually stunning and features some clever directorial tricks.
