Movies and also horror movies often represent their current young generation, even if it’s not always particularly positive. Bodies Bodies Bodies does that too. MyMMO editor Nikolas Hernes thinks the film creates an interesting mix of comedy and horror.
What is Bodies Bodies Bodies about? The wealthy David, played by Pete Davidson, is throwing a party for his twenty-something friends at his parents’ estate. They want to celebrate during a wild hurricane. As is typical for such parties in films, there are drugs, alcohol, and party games.
The game the group plays is called Bodies Bodies Bodies
. A mix of Werewolf
and Murder in the Disco
. When Pete Davidson suddenly actually dies, the situation escalates and betrayal and trust within the group are put to the test. You can watch the film since 29.07.2024 on Netflix.

Horror and Comedy about Gen Z
Classic premise with a new twist. Even in old slashers like Halloween or Friday the 13th, filmmakers mocked the young generation. Drugs and the constant urge for sex were characteristics of many of Michael’s and Jason’s victims. Bodies Bodies Bodies strikes a similar chord. The casting of Pete Davidson alone shows that.
Among all the young people, he always seems like one who is older but tries to stay young. The comedian is mainly known as the ex-boyfriend of Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian. Like his character, actually all the characters are incredibly unlikable and only confident because they have money.
However, when death occurs, things escalate. Due to the hurricane, the phones don’t work and the question of the culprit is not logically attempted to be answered. The much more important question is who cheated on whom and who was once together with whom.
In any other film, that would be really unbearable, but here it works because it takes a classic crime premise and makes something its own. Personally, I liked it because it takes the typical illogical behavior in horror films
to the extreme and creates many funny moments.
The film satirically addresses other clichés of Gen Z as well. When you look at how the teenagers deal with the murders, it shows how numb the protagonists are to violence. Sure, there’s a murderer on the loose, but they continue to discuss trivial matters.
The actors do a great job of presenting their roles. It doesn’t feel like a film that tries to represent Gen Z, but rather like a film made by Gen Z. Bodies Bodies Bodies takes clichés and leads them into the absurd. The wealthy, self-assured youths become panicked children who act outside of all logic.
As you can already tell from the text, the film is not a classic horror film. You will rarely be scared. Nevertheless, the film is a refreshing experience, especially for fans of lighter horror with comedy elements. Bodies Bodies Bodies is also not just a blunt attack on a generation, but a satire about challenges, the way we interact, and the absurd in the horror genre.
