The indie hit Hades has inspired so many developers that one could now speak of a “Hadeslike” genre: This category also includes a new game on Steam, which is already enjoying great popularity in Early Access.
Which game is it? We are talking about Realm on Ink, an action roguelite with an ink aesthetic, set in Chinese mythology. The game was released in Early Access on Steam on September 27, 2024.
Our adventure begins with the swordswoman Red, and over time we will unlock additional playable characters. In the hunt for a fox spirit, Red learns that she is subjected to the predetermined fate of a fictional world, the Realm of Ink – from which she wants to break free.

How is the game received so far? Realm of Ink has received 765 reviews on Steam within just under a week, of which 91% are positive. Many reviewers praise the distinctive art style that makes both the environments and characters appear as if painted with ink.
Hades with Pets
The game not only looks beautiful but also does several things differently than its predecessor. During a run, we can find so-called Ink Gems that grant us new abilities. These are assigned to a specific element and affect our Ink Pet.
Ink Pets are cute companions whose appearance and abilities depend on the gems we choose. Our Ink Pet will always fight by our side and is the only support we have – there is no co-op.
