With NBA 2K24 a new sports game was released on Steam on September 8, 2023. However, player reviews are devastating. One reason for this is the weak PC version, as players have been demanding better features and nicer graphics for years.
A few days ago, on September 8, 2023, the new basketball game NBA 2K24 was released for PC. However, the game is already the second worst on Steam. It only surpasses Blizzard’s Overwatch 2, which is still considered the worst game on Steam.
But how does it happen that a game gets torn apart just a few days after its release?
We have embedded the trailer of the predecessor for you here:
Weak graphics, severe microtransactions, and poor PC version
What do the reviews look like? At this point in time (September 12, 2023, 7:00 PM), the reviews on Steam are “extremely negative” with only 11% positive out of nearly 3,000 ratings. Many players are disappointed with the latest installment in the series and express their astonishment (via steampowered.com):
- The graphics are far too poor for PC, the textures are lacking, and it has nothing to do with “Next Gen”.
- Some bugs and issues have been present in the game for 5 years.
- The game is full of microtransactions and that is discouraging for both old and new players.
- Some complain that there are too many cheaters, and the developers do nothing about it.
- The “mycareer” mode is just a shadow of its former self and the developers have erased the story behind the players.
The latest installment, NBA 2K24, offers no improvements compared to its predecessor. Some players put it harshly: The developer is just selling the old game again, only with a different number. With the same graphics, animations, and the same hard microtransactions.
How did the predecessors fare? The predecessors, NBA 2K23 and 2K22, at least did not get hit quite as hard in recent years:
- NBA 2K23 has a positive rating of 64% with around 35,000 reviews.
- NBA 2K22 has a positive rating of 58% with just under 30,000 reviews.
Even the old games were considered infested with microtransactions, and players also demanded “Next-Gen” features: Many want good animations and dribbling features to finally see on PC as well and not just on a console.
