League of Legends changes with the patches and introduces new stars. Most of the time, champions stay in their roles, but it has been shown that one of them is extremely powerful when played in the wrong role.
Which champion is it? The big bad Aatrox has been a part of League of Legends for over 12 years. He is a classic top laner and is played in that role by most professionals. However, since the LoL patch in November, there has been a trend where Aatrox is played wrong by being forced into a different role than usual.
Where is Aatrox currently being played? Aatrox is currently often found in the jungle. The Reddit user Numerous_Fudge_9537 pointed out that Aatrox is currently ranked 4th among the most banned jungle champions. The post states: “Aatrox has found a larger audience and more success in the jungle than in his actual role.”
Even in the KeSPA Cup 2025, where some of the best Korean teams play, Aatrox is only played in the jungle (as of December 10, 2025).
Why is Aatrox so strong in the jungle right now? With patch 25.23 on November 18, 2025, some champions were adjusted to be used additionally in the jungle if you have been forced into that role. Riot aims to make the jungler role more attractive by providing a larger selection of champions for it.
Aatrox has an ability that allows him to swing his sword and hit up to 3 times. Each activation of the spell is a separate hit. Since patch 25.23, monsters such as those in the jungle receive additional damage from further hits of the sword.

The user BaneOfAlduin writes on Reddit that he has already tried Aatrox in the jungle and has come to the conclusion that the changes to his sword ability deal absurd amounts of damage. He himself manages to clear the jungle with good speed, although he did not use some sword swings perfectly.
Another Reddit user agrees with him and added that Aatrox is even so fast that the champ finishes his first tour through the jungle several seconds before a key monster spawns (reddit.com).
