The creators of 7 vs. Wild revealed in their “Behind The Scenes” series how the suspension went and it all went anything but according to plan.
What problems were there? Besides the main series of 7 vs. Wild, there is also the “Behind The Scenes” format on YouTube, where you can watch the production prepare and execute 7 vs. Wild. In the current episode, they show the suspension, which went differently than expected.
The problems started quite early. Due to the weather on the morning of the suspension, the seaplanes were unable to land in time at the agreed landing site. The candidates were supposed to be picked up there, but the first participants arrived almost simultaneously with the first plane.
But time wasn’t the only issue; during the first attempt to take off, it turned out that the candidates and a cameraman were too heavy. Accordingly, they sent the cameraman out of the plane and managed to take off at last. But then the real problems began.
Former candidate Jens “Knossi” Knossalla is also well acquainted with problems during the suspension of 7 vs. Wild:
Sinking planes and boats
What other problems were there? After the first candidates had taken off, it was about the remaining participants. They were to be transported with a second plane and the returning first plane as well. However, the second plane was taking on water and was at risk of sinking.
To get the water out of the loading hold, a so-called bilge pump was needed, but the one from the second plane was insufficient. So, candidate Joe Vogel decided to swim through the Amazon to deliver the pump from the other plane.
He managed to do so, even though he was being carried away by the very strong current. On Instagram (viewable on Reddit), he stated that his courage was motivated by not wanting the other plane to sink.
Was it then accomplished? No, the problems of the suspension continued. Before the suspension in the jungle, the candidates still had to get to the starting point by small boats. However, these boats were not in the best condition, so water leaked through the hull into the interior.
To ensure that a boat did not sink, candidate Fibii was given a plastic cup, which she was supposed to use to scoop water out of the boat during the ride. She succeeded in doing so, and the candidates finally arrived in the jungle after a long journey. Here, they had to embark on the well-known march from the first episode.
Stress for beautiful pictures
Was all of that necessary? No, probably not. As fans discuss on Reddit, the seaplanes and all the stress served to provide beautiful images for the start of the series. Although they are part of 7 vs. Wild, so the candidates had to jump from a helicopter and swim to shore in season 2, the suspension could have probably taken place with boats as well.
That was also proven by host and Fritz-Meinecke replacement Hervé Neukomm, who drove by boat to the place of suspension while the candidates flew. For fans on Reddit, this stress imposed on the candidates was unnecessary, and could also have partly led to major rule violations.
The new season of 7 vs. Wild continually evokes mixed feelings among fans. This time, however, there were so many events that the creators decided to start another series that most fans probably overlooked: 7 vs. Wild now has a new series, but most fans missed it
