Since Season 8, bosses in Diablo 4 can no longer be “oneshotten.” On one hand, the difficulty has increased; on the other, they have phases where they are immune. This annoys many players greatly. However: A comment from the community lead gives hope.
What specifically annoys the players? With Season 8, Blizzard has increased the difficulty on the torment levels in Diablo 4. The hideout bosses no longer go down immediately, have more hit points, and deal more damage. They don’t just have more health, but also so-called immunity phases.
That means: Even if you would take down a boss with a few hits, it still doesn’t go down. That takes away the players’ “secret weapon” against the tough opponents. Instead, it switches to a phase where it is either briefly immune or simply leaves the map altogether – like Duriel, who burrows under the map. What does the community lead say? In a post on X, a user writes on June 28, 2025: “Please remove the immunity phases from Andariel/Duriel/Mephisto dog [Note: the Herald of Hatred, a new boss in Season 8]. For Lilith’s sake.” In response, community lead Adam Fletcher states that there are plans to address this.
What this specifically means, whether the phases will be completely removed or just weakened, Fletcher leaves open. It is also unclear when a fix will come. A user follows up, asking whether this will be included in the Season 9 update, but so far there is no answer. Season 9 starts on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

How the community is reacting: In a post on Reddit, the community picks up on Fletcher’s comment. Many agree: The sooner Blizzard fixes it, the better.
