On Steam, there is a 7-year-old app that has quadrupled its user numbers since the beginning of the year: Lossless Scaling improves the performance of games with any graphics card and now allows you to boost the FPS.
What is Lossless Scaling? Lossless Scaling is a program available, among other places, on Steam. It has been live there since December 2018. However, until early 2024, the app recorded only about 100 simultaneous users (via SteamDB).
In January of the previous year, however, the user numbers increased. Between December 2024 and March 2025, Lossless Scaling made the largest leap from about 4,200 simultaneous users to an all-time peak of 20,903.
The reason for the increased popularity is likely the update from January 10, 2025 (via Steam): Since then, Lossless Scaling can not only increase the GPU load, but also the current game framerate by an additional 20 frames.
A versatile program for better performance?
What can the app do? In addition to the FPS boost, Lossless Scaling has other features that make it a useful helper for weaker PCs. Among other things, it can also reduce the workload of the used graphics card. Additionally, the app allows games to be displayed in windowed mode as fullscreen. Furthermore, graphic quality can be improved.
Especially interesting is that the program can be combined with any GPU. It doesn’t matter whether there is a Nvidia GeForce, an AMD card, or Intel’s Battlemage installed. A YouTuber has also published a 17-minute test of the program.
Via Steam, the program currently costs 6.89 euros.

However, there are also critical reviews. Some users criticize that the app recently starts all games in fullscreen and the windowed mode no longer works.
