What you really do not expect at a shared meal is to become the meal yourself. This type of mimic may be small, but can cause really nasty wounds to the face.
With some bad luck, you might encounter one of the few mimics that are particularly cunning. Yes, this really exists and is also described in the Monster Manual. Although most mimics only possess the intelligence of a predator, some develop greater intelligence and can even hold conversations (Monster Manual 2014, p. 220).
If your fork suddenly speaks to you, it may be confusing or funny. However, if your fork waits for the right moment to suddenly bite your tongue in your mouth, you will be unable to hold conversations anymore.

A Healing Potion
What is even more dramatic than a mimic in the mouth is a mimic in the stomach. A healing potion mimic is not only particularly nasty but also damn dangerous. If your dungeon master includes such a villain in the campaign, you know that your life will never be safe.
When a healing potion is disguised, it can only be the container that is a mimic, wanting to give you a fat lip just like the cutlery. Much worse is when the saving healing potion suddenly becomes thicker than usual and you accidentally drank a mimic.
A mimic inside you can eat its way through your stomach like an alien if you do not act quickly enough. Therefore, you should try to vomit it back up quickly, or hope that your stomach is strong enough to take care of the creature itself.
