7. The catch of the ghostly Marowak

Let’s stay a little longer in Lavender Town: Because the creepy place has not only scary tales and eerie music but also a real ghost to offer.
We encounter this ghost in the Pokémon Tower and can use the Silph Scope to reveal that it is the deceased mother of a sad Cubone.
This Marowak that you encounter at the end cannot be caught. Unless, some claimed back then, you could catch it if you just threw enough balls! At least that’s what some people said.
That turned out to be untrue.
8. Mew under the truck
Near the SS Anne, there is a truck. And under that truck? The mysterious Pokémon Mew is hiding! You just have to push the truck aside.
… at least many believed this in the past. But even here, it’s clear today: It’s a myth that is so well-known that it has made it into the list of gaming myths, but that doesn’t make it any more true.
But at least you were able to realize the dream in Pokémon GO a few years later.
9. A virus enhances Pokémon
In my schoolyard days, it wasn’t such a thing to quickly go online and search for information. Verifying rumors is much easier today than it was back then. And because so many stories circulated, the Pokémon virus that could infect and enhance Pokémon quickly joined the ranks of fairy tales.
However, the “Pokérus” turned out to be a real existing feature. It was first found in the Silver and Gold games and remained a real element in the games until Sword and Shield. In the PokéCenter, you are even informed if a Pokémon has it. You can read more about it in the PokéWiki.
What Pokémon myths do you remember from back then – or even today? Which stories did you believe for way too long? Which guaranteed catching tricks do you still use in the games? Tell us in the comments!
Mew is not the only mysterious Pokémon that players tried to catch. The Pokémon Celebi was also a monster surrounded by many stories about how to obtain it. But without cheating, it could only be obtained in one way for a long time. And MeinMMO author Paul was already a proud Celebi owner back then – thanks to his father! You can read more about it here.
