For over 9 years, 88-year-old Shirley Curry entertained more than 1.3 million subscribers on YouTube with over 2,000 videos about the RPG Skyrim. That’s it now.
Who is it about? The now 88-year-old Shirley Curry became known for her content on the RPG hit Skyrim. For over 9 years, she entertained her fans with her adventures in Tamriel. In the process, she gathered 1.3 million subscribers.
The “Skyrim Grandma” even caught the attention of Bethesda, who promised to make her an NPC in the next installment of The Elder Scrolls. Our colleagues from Webedia reported this on GamePro.
After so many years and over 2,300 videos, it is supposed to be over starting now.
In German Twitch, we have the “MarmeladenOma“.
No more fun with gaming videos
Why is the Skyrim Grandma stopping? In a video from September 22, 2023, the 88-year-old reports that creating content has become “excruciatingly boring.” She feels like she’s spending most of her time on the computer.
Sometimes she catches herself entering her gaming room and thinking: “You have to make a video!” But she simply has no desire for it. So she would turn around and leave the room again.
The 88-year-old says: She does it all just for fun. And it’s just not fun anymore. She is tired and bored.

Quilting instead of Skyrim
On September 23, Curry also had to undergo eye surgery, from which she will probably need to recover for a few weeks. As soon as she can, the YouTuber wants to reconnect with her fans, but not with gaming.
Instead, the 88-year-old finally wants to work on a quilt that she has been planning for a long time. She could share progress on the project with her subscribers. Other hobbies, like reading, could also become the subject of future vlogs.
In addition, the Skyrim Grandma reports that she is considering writing more of her own stories. However, she can never stay interested long enough to put the plan into action. Should that happen, she would read the stories to her fans chapter by chapter.
In the comments, many followers express their gratitude to Curry for the many beautiful years and wish her all the best for the future:
- “When it’s no longer fun, no one wants you to force yourself to carry on. The reason it was so enjoyable to watch you was that you enjoyed it so much and had such an interesting perspective on everything. […]” – Guynhistruck
- “End of an era. Thank you for taking us on your Skyrim journey all these years!” –akhawi4108
- “I’ve been watching your gaming videos on Skyrim since I was 16, and now I am 23 years old. Thank you for all the years of joy. […]” – heartbeatqc
Once Bethesda promised to immortalize the “Skyrim Grandma” in the upcoming RPG The Elder Scrolls 6. But the developers are taking their time, and since the announcement in 2018, there have been hardly any significant updates. Gamer Grandma is not interested in Starfield: “I’m mad at Bethesda”
