In the popular shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, there could soon be a character who is in a wheelchair – and the developers have come up with a clever idea for that.
Which shooter is it about? Rainbow Six: Siege. This is a tactical shooter from Ubisoft that was already released in December 2015 for PC and consoles. Since its release, Rainbow Six: Siege has built a loyal fan base and regularly achieves over 50,000 concurrent players on Steam to this day.
- In Rainbow Six: Siege, you play 5v5, one team attacks while the other defends.
- The goal of the attackers is to defuse a bomb. The defenders must prevent that.
- In the casual game modes, you alternatively have to rescue a hostage or secure an area.
- Each player selects a character at the beginning of a round, which are called “Operators”.
- The Operators all have different gadgets and weapons that help achieve the goals and, for example, allow for the blowing up of walls or floors.
- Each operator can only be selected once per round.
The Operators are a fundamental part of the gameplay principle in Rainbow Six: Siege. Therefore, a new season often brings a new Operator, which is then discussed extensively in the community.
The new season, Operation Twin Shell, will also bring a new Operator. Now there has been a leak showing that the upcoming Operator will be in a wheelchair – this has not been seen before in any PvP shooter.
A wheelchair user, but two armed robots
What is the clever idea behind the character? According to a leak on X.com, you do not control the person in the wheelchair, but rather two robots that are controlled by the Operator.
With the leak, two videos were shared showing the new Operator. In the first video, the menu of the shooter is visible. A person in a wheelchair drives into view. The wheelchair is equipped with screens and controls, which apparently activate the two robots.
The second video shows some gameplay of the new Operator. Two individuals can be seen, presumably the robots, who can move around the map “Chalet” normally. Only one robot is active at a time, never both simultaneously. So, you can probably switch between the robots. The inactive robot crouches behind a sort of shield during this time.

Community accuses Ubisoft of copying a new shooter
The players of Rainbow Six: Siege have very different thoughts on the new Operator. Some criticize that controlling two robots feels too futuristic to them. Others believe that it could be too powerful.
However, some players also find the idea really good and praise the unique approach. There are also players who criticize on X.com that the ability is actually not that unique. One user accuses Ubisoft, for example, of copying the gameplay concept of shroud’s upcoming tactical shooter Spectre Divide: “Wow, I didn’t expect someone to copy the core mechanic of Specter Divide so quickly.”
Ultimately, it depends on how well Ubisoft implements the idea. MyMMO editor Dariusz is already a fan of Spectre Divide and has logged thousands of hours in Rainbow Six: Siege.
