What is a Yao Guai? Yao Guai are basically just only
American black bears that have mutated due to radioactive radiation. Therefore, they mostly look like normal bears. However, as we also know from real life, one should never underestimate bears.
The name Yao Guai was given to them by Chinese prisoners who escaped after the Great War. Yao
stands for monster or demon, Guai
for bizarre (via YouTube).
Yao Guai can reproduce. This is known because you can also encounter young bears. They are fundamentally aggressive animals, but they can also team up in groups. In Fallout 3, for instance, you can discover a tunnel where several Yao Guai live (via Nukapedia).
If you encounter a Yao Guai in the wasteland, you better have the optimal equipment ready. These creatures are fast, aggressive, and quite strong. Especially in tunnels and tight spaces, they could be your end.
