Ultima Online: New Legacy
Setting: Medieval Fantasy | Developer: Broadsword, Electronic Arts | Platform: PC | Release Date: September 30, 1997 | Model: Free2Play
The ISO MMORPG of the venerable Ultima series by Richard Garriott has a turbulent past. Since its launch, countless content expansions and updates have landed on the live servers, as well as a complete overhaul and various developer teams trying their hand at the online adventure.
The trailer for the Legacy server of Ultima Online:
The current developer, Broadsword, had already announced a classic version of Ultima Online in September 2020. It took more than four years to get Ultima Online: New Legacy actually live. Since October 15, 2024, you can explore the nostalgia shard of the MMORPG classic.
The first season is currently running, reaching its so-called “Shattering” in late summer 2025 and should conclude in October. During this time, nostalgia seekers can expect the original map of Britannia and the core RPG experience of Classic-UO, but with adjustments.
The developers aimed to make areas such as game world, skills, and equipment progression, resource gathering, item crafting, PvP, and social interaction more intuitive and engaging.
If you are interested in the nostalgia trip to Britannia, you need an Endless Journey account or an active subscription. After the current season ends, more will follow. You can find more details about Ultima Online: New Legacy at uo.com.
The Lord of the Rings Online – Legendary Server
Setting: Fantasy, Middle-earth | Developer: Standing Stone Game | Platform: PC | Release Date: April 24, 2007 | Model: Free2Play
The first Legendary servers of The Lord of the Rings Online launched on November 8, 2018. These legendary servers initially offered the introductory content up to level 50 and focused on the stories of “Shadows of Angmar” and “Before the Shadow.” Over time, the maximum level was increased and further story content was unlocked.

You won’t get a “1 to 1” experience as in 2007 since the developers have made improvements in the user interface, bug fixes, and changes to gameplay systems.
The two newest Legendary servers, Angmar and Mordor, went live last year and were the first LOTRO worlds to use modern 64-bit servers. In addition to nostalgic content, there’s also a fresh special challenge: the Veil of Nine.
The titular servants of Sauron scour Middle-earth for the Ring-bearer and occasionally hunt player characters, leading to exciting encounters in the world. Note: You need a VIP membership to access the Legendary servers of LOTRO. You can find more details at lotro.com.
