The Cyberpunk role-playing game, whose latest edition is called Cyberpunk RED, places you in the dystopian and violent metropolis of Night City and served as the basis for the popular video game Cyberpunk 2077. Players are presented with a world that is shaped by powerful mega-corporations, brutal street gangs, and the pervasive influence of technology and cybernetic enhancements.
The core of the game is survival as an “Edgerunner.” These are heavily armored mercenaries who take on dangerous jobs for money and reputation. Central to the game are character-centered stories in a world where information is power and every deal can end fatally.
Players take on roles like Netrunners (hackers), Solos (mercenaries), Fixers (black market dealers), or Rockerboys (rebellious artists), where style and individuality are just as important as respective combat strength. The rules place more emphasis on realism and risk, as combats are fast, brutal, and often deadly.
A key difference from D&D lies in the setting and game structure: Instead of epic quests against dragons or demons, players experience smaller, often morally gray missions involving sabotage, espionage, or survival in the underworld. There is no magic; instead, cyberware, drugs, weapons, and technology dominate the gameplay.
