It’s getting exciting in Destiny 2. The launch of the new raid “Oath of the Student” is just around the corner, and soon players will discover what lies within the pyramid and what the mockery and worm larvae have to do with it. To ensure you are well-prepared, we have put together some practical tips for the Day-One raid.
This week is all about the “Oath of the Student” raid in Destiny 2. The raid is brand new, but that’s not the only exciting part.
- The raid features new mechanics and challenges that must be mastered as a team.
- The raid could add further details to the gripping Witch Queen story.
- The challenge on Day-One is significant, as you will be playing in competition mode.
- Bungie will award a winner’s belt to the first team that successfully finishes the raid.
So, if you want to play the raid on the first day and participate in the competition, you should make some preparations. MeinMMO has compiled 7 practical tips for you.
1. Raid Banners
Especially on Day 1, a raid in Destiny 2 is essentially trial-and-error. This will be the case again this coming weekend when the Guardians play the “Oath of the Student” raid for the first time.
No one knows the mechanics, and therefore restarts will happen frequently. It is important that your team has enough raid banners. Especially if you want to try to beat the time trial, you can’t afford to take a long break to buy raid banners.
Where to get Raid Banners? You can buy raid banners from the clan manager Suraya Hawthorne. 10 pieces cost either 50,000 Glimmer or 30 Legendary Shards. You can place these in the raid, and your team can recharge at them, receiving full super and ammunition.
2. Unlock all seasonal artifact mods
Players usually unlock the classic champion mods fairly quickly. However, the best mods often hide in the last rows of the artifact, such as “Suppressing Glaive” or “Suppressing Darkness”.
Experience shows that having all seasonal artifact mods available provides advantages in the Day-One raid. So level up the artifact as much as possible.
3. Don’t ignore new weapons and exotics
Many players rely on their tried and true arsenal. However, it’s worth taking a look at the new weapons and exotics from Witch Queen and Season 16, as they offer unique benefits that might be strong in the raid.
The glaive is also an indispensable tool against Savathun’s “Radiant Breach.” If you charge at the Lucent Brood with it and use the artifact mod “Suppressing Glaive”, you can easily send your opponents to the afterlife, especially without major resistance. Of course, this also works against all other enemies.
Seasonal weapons offer special advantages. This includes the origin perk “Landtank”. Weapons with this unique weapon perk from Season 16 grant you increased durability and additional damage resistance against fighters. Since you will be underpowered in the raid, this can be very helpful.
If you’ve also leveled up a bit in weapon crafting, you can assemble a neat and effective weapon for the raid that has this origin perk “Landtank”.
Otherwise, focus on burst damage and weapons that can sweep away mobs and smaller groups.
4. Plan loadouts in advance, but don’t restrict yourselves
Currently, no one except Bungie knows exactly what players can expect in the raid. Therefore, there won’t be a “perfect loadout” yet. But experienced raid veterans still plan ahead.
This means you and your team should prepare some strong loadouts for your Guardian before the raid. It’s also advisable to rely on classic builds, such as a strong Well Warlock or a Bubble Titan.
A practical tool to save builds: We recommend the tool “DIM” (Destiny Item Manager) for this purpose. You can create your loadouts there with all the details. You can define weapons, exotic armors, and even integrate mods. Then, if you want to change your loadout, go to orbit and you can rebuild your Guardian with a click, including changing the super, aspects, and fragments.
5. Pay attention to all messages and details
In addition to builds and weapons, you also need brains. In Destiny 2 raids, it is important to quickly understand mechanics. This is especially true in the Day-One raid when you have no idea what to do.
Remember the info pop-ups: To quickly understand what is happening, the notifications at the bottom left of the screen are often a great help. Sometimes you pick up something and receive a buff. This is displayed right there. This can help you figure out what exactly to do.
Equally important is the display after a failed attempt. This wipe overview sometimes contains interesting hints, as was the case in the Last Wish raid. There, players saw “symbols cleansed” displayed, giving them an idea of what to do and what is important for the encounter.
6. Good communication in the team is important
Since a raid is played as a team, communication is essential. Raid professionals are experienced—you’ll know each other well, and that helps them communicate vital details within the team.
However, if you’re just taking your first steps in a raid, this may be unfamiliar and not self-evident.
- A fail is not the end of the world. However, in the Day-One raid, it’s important that after dying, you can tell your team what killed you and what message you saw.
- Sometimes, only specific players can damage the boss or enemies. Therefore, everyone should have a chance to speak.
- Try not to talk over each other. It can be helpful to designate a team leader who takes over coordination and ensures everyone is aware of everything.
7. The key to victory is buffs, debuffs, and health bars
In Destiny 2, the path to victory often involves buffs and debuffs. This will be no different in the latest raid. So pay attention to when you receive a buff or debuff, and communicate that. This is especially important when these are related to each other.
The boss’s health bar provides important clues: If you did not have a buff or debuff and still failed, then missing damage was likely the reason. Often, the boss health bar is divided into sections. So, if you can’t deal enough damage in one phase to melt the first section, that could also be the reason for the fail.
Don’t get discouraged: Finally, we would like to share a personal tip with you. Don’t get discouraged, even if at first glance nothing seems to be working. Even though the Worlds-First race has a lot of prestige, especially when you win, the fun should always come first.
Hopefully, our tips have helped you prepare for the Day-One raid. Please feel free to share your secret tips with us in the comments. How do you master the first run in a new raid? How professionally do you approach it, or is it just a raid evening that you spend with clan and friends?
