Rank 3: Andúril
- Weapon type: Sword
- Bearer: Aragorn
This sword was originally called “Narsil” and was wielded by none other than the legendary Isildur. During the battle of the last alliance, he used it against Sauron, but the dark lord destroyed the weapon. Before that, however, the blade severed Sauron’s finger, causing the One Ring to fall to the ground.
The fragments of Narsil lay in Rivendell for a long time until they were reassembled and thus created Andúril. Aragorn carried the sword into battle as Gondor’s heir, and just the history of Sauron’s connection with the weapon must have intimidated the dark lord greatly.
Andúril is not only a powerful sword, very sharp and stable, but it also possesses a great symbolic significance: This weapon once succeeded in bringing Sauron down, and in the hands of Aragorn, it is once again a clear threat. For the allies of the heir to the throne, the sword is instead a glimmer of hope and a sign to follow Aragorn into battle.
