This weapon was also forged by Elves but was considered lost for a long time. Only Gandalf found it again and carries it in The Lord of the Rings. Just like Sting, Glamdring also glows when orcs approach, which makes the sword just as practical – however, this detail was omitted in the films.
Apart from that, the weapon is very powerful in the hands of a strong character, and Gandalf, as a wizard and Maiar, is inherently among the spearhead in Middle-earth. For instance, he managed to defeat the Balrog with Glamdring – one of the most powerful and evil beings ever – by plunging the sword directly into its heart. Also in the great final battle in Minas Tirith, Gandalf wielded the sword and killed countless enemies as before. It is no coincidence that the weapon bears the fitting nickname “The Enemy Hammer.”
