Grond is a special weapon, as the battering ram is not operated by a single being but swung by several trolls. Front animals pull the huge construction of steel, which resembles a very vicious wolf in appearance.
Flames blaze in its mouth, but that is not the only trick that Grond has up its sleeve. The battering ram has been enchanted so that the impact on walls, gates, or the like causes multiple types of damage.
With this power, the minions of Mordor managed to break through the well-guarded gate of Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor. Thus, the resistance was broken, and orcs, trolls, and the like could invade the city. The ram, which is several hundred meters long, therefore represents a frighteningly effective weapon in sieges and can also not be stopped by almost perfectly protected fortresses.
