“Raven’s Slumber” (“Raven’s Slumber”)
- First appearance: Campaign 1 – Vox Machina, Episode 44: “The Sunken Tomb”
“Raven’s Slumber” is a black crystal that tapers to a point at one end and is fitted with a loop so that it can be worn as a necklace or medallion on a chain.
The crystal forms a gate to a tiny pocket dimension that can contain a single creature of large size or smaller indefinitely. A creature inside can vaguely see what is going on outside the crystal but does not age and does not benefit from rest while inside it.
The user must touch the creature they wish to enclose and use an action to either enclose or release it. If the user attempts to enclose an unwilling creature, that creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 10) to resist.
If a creature is expressly connected with the Raven’s Slumber, the user can release or retrieve it with a bonus action instead of an action. If the creature becomes unconscious within 100 feet (approximately 30 meters) of the crystal and the Raven’s Slumber is unoccupied, the creature is also immediately stabilized and placed into the crystal’s pocket dimension.
In summary, the Raven’s Slumber works a bit like a Pokéball, only in the D&D universe. Vex used the Raven’s Slumber to better transport Trinket the Bear. However, you can also see in the animated series about Vox Machina how the crystal can be used in a fight, as an enraged barbarian jumps out of it to charge at the enemies.
