Place 6: Mûmakil
Mûmakil are also known as “Oliphaunts”, which already refers to the kinship of these giant beasts. Basically, Mûmakil are oversized elephants with up to six tusks. Their legs are as wide as trees, and anyone who makes the mistake of getting in their way will be crushed.
In battles, Mûmakil are also often used because battle towers have been mounted on their backs. From there, warriors can shoot arrows or throw spears at their enemies. Many foes flee at the mere sight of Mûmakil, just as horses typically shy away and flee. In the films, the great beasts appear during the final battle on the fields of Pelennor – where some are taken down by Legolas.
